Terrascope is actually manufacturing thin sections from the famous site of Blombos Cave, as well as two other Prehistoric caves from South Africa. We have to prepare over 70 micromorphological slides in total and we just completed the first batch of 30 thin sections. There are some really nice sequences with multiple floor deposits including lots of shells and plant material.
Most of the thin sections ground very well and evenly. However some are not perfect (too thin or too thick in some places) and the researcher will have to decide if we sacrifice what is left of the sample in order to try to make a better thin section, or if the slide, even if not perfect, is good enough for micromorphology study and the remaining sample can be preserved for archive.
