British collapsed/degraded earth wallls

More thin sections from British earth walls

Terrascope has just finished manufacturing more thin sections from earth walls from different sites in the UK. On one site, the samples come from collapsed/degraded earth walls. The researcher is interested in finding turf that might have been employed in the construction of the walls. On the second site, turf is clearly visible in the wall, as well a wood stick as part of the structure (see picture). A long sequence has been sampled and turned into overlapping mammoth slides to investigate the whole profile in micromorphology. These two sets of slides should bring a lot of informations on construction techniques in the Romano-British Culture.
