Terrascope just finished the manufacturing of 30 micromorphological slides from agricultural soils of the Sea of Moyle. These thin sections are of a different format than our usual ones: 75x38mm, normally designed for sediment cores but can be applied to any samples on requirement.
The samples come from different sites of the Sea of Moyle and exhibit a great diversity of soils and sediments. Some are very peaty and had a tendency to shrink during drying, even with acetone replacement, some are very silty and others are very sandy. They all come from different depths of the local sedimentation. The researcher asked for the thin sections to remain uncovered as geochemistry analysis will be performed on the slides.
