Working on samples from a Tumulus

We are actually processing several blocks from a Bronze Age tumulus discovered during a commercial excavation in north-eastern France. The sediment composing the tumulus is very clayey and we had to be extra careful when drying the samples to avoid desiccation crack formation. The samples are now well impregnated and cured, and ready to be transformed in thin sections for the micromorphological study of the stratigraphic sequence. The study has for objective to document the erection and maintenance of the tumulus.
